In the third round of the WTA 500 Charleston Open, Zheng Qinwen fended off a comeback attempt and defeated 13th seed Elise Mertens 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals, extending her clay-court winning streak to 13 matches across seasons. The scoreline was 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Up next, Zheng will face 9th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the quarterfinals.
